About the organisation

Organisation Name : Merri Outreach Support Service

MOSS was established in 1989 to empower individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness by providing comprehensive support services aimed at enhancing access to housing, support, and social opportunities. Our overarching goal is to address the root causes of homelessness and promote social equity within the community.

At MOSS, our team forms the cornerstone of our mission. Comprising dedicated individuals driven by a passion for creating positive change, we work together to serve our community with both empathy and expertise. From seasoned community advocates to emerging talents, our diverse team members bring a wealth of unique perspectives and skills, each valued deeply.

Our culture at MOSS is deeply ingrained in our dedication to social impact and inclusivity. We believe in fostering an environment where every voice is not only heard but also respected, cultivating a strong sense of belonging for all. Guided by principles of transparency, integrity, and empathy, we navigate the intricacies of our work with sincerity. We prioritise ongoing learning and development, offering avenues for both professional development and personal enrichment.

Together, we embrace diversity and champion equity, striving toward a more just and compassionate society.

Joining the team at MOSS comes with a host of benefits aimed at ensuring your job satisfaction and well-being. MOSS offers secure employment with competitive salaries. Our staff are employed under the MOSS Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA), which provides exceptional employment conditions, including superannuation contributions on top of your annual salary, along with salary-sacrificing options.

In addition to standard leave, we provide additional paid leave between Christmas and New Year, along with greater personal leave accruals, generous paid parental leave, and the option for purchase leave. We also provide a free employee assistance program, and a range of health and well-being supports to ensure our staff feel supported both personally and professionally.

We actively encourage applicants from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, people living with disability, LGBTIQI+, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to explore the opportunity of a career at MOSS.

About the role

Catchment Youth Refuge offers emergency and short-term accommodation with team-case management for disadvantaged and vulnerable homeless young people. Our staff adhere to high professional and ethical standards, providing culturally sensitive support in a safe and nurturing environment. We empower young people through a non-institutionalised approach, ensuring their active participation in decision-making. Our refuge workers also provide outreach support to those who have left the refuge.

As a Youth Refuge Worker, you will provide 24/7 emergency and short-term accommodation for young people aged 16-25, including parents and their children. You will support their daily routines to develop independent living skills, assess their needs, and offer team-based case management. Your role involves referring young people to essential services, building resilience through holistic support, and connecting them to education, training, and employment opportunities. You will also help identify pathways out of the refuge and support those who have left, recognising the broad issues contributing to youth homelessness.
